Sony Announces Upgraded Action Cam
by Laura Hicks -  9/4/2013

Today Sony announced the newest upgrade to their Action Cam line-up, the AS30V. This action cam comes as an addition to the lineup. The AS15 will still exist, but the price will drop to $199. Sony's AS10, however, will no longer be created.

The AS30V comes in response to consumer requests to make the Action Cam better than ever before. The AS30V features a smaller footprint as well as additional apps available for the camera. The AS30V has a 16mp sensor, 170 degrees viewing angle, and a new waterproof housing that has major improvements over is predecessor. The AS30V Action Cam weighs in at about three ounces (with battery) and comes with a waterproof housing that is 35% lighter and 25% smaller than the previous model. Designed to reduce wind and water pressure when you're cycling or jet-skiing, the new model promises to be ergonomically superior.

The Action Cam has built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. It also comes with GPS which can be used in conjunction with the PlayMemories app. The app now allows users to track their locations, track their speeds and track their distances.

The AS30V has can capture video in Full HD 1920x1080 60p/50p and 1920x1080 30p/25p. The camera also has two slow-motion modes-HD slow 2x or HD slow 4x.

The AS30V action camera will be available in late September for $300. A "live view Wi-Fi remote" is also available for purchase and works in conjunction with the Action Cam for easier operation. This remote, worn around your wrist like a watch, has a small color LCD screen. The Wi-Fi watch can be used for stop/start operation in addition to controlling other aspects of the camera. Like the camera, the watch is also waterproof. It will be available in December for $150.
