Sony Unveils A58 DSLR Camera
by Laura Hicks -  2/25/2013

Available for only $600 including an 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 lens, the Sony A58 is a DSLR designed for all users. Offering some of Sony's best of features, the A58 will be a replacement for the A57 and A37 models. The A58 is a camera designed with an abundance of upgrades starting with the all-new 20.1-megapixel Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor powered by the Bionz processor. This Bionz processor features the same noise reduction algorithms found in the A99. In addition, the A58 is Sony's newest camera to offer Translucent Mirror Technology. This technology was designed to allow for non-stop phase detection AF and continuous live image preview. Other benefits include a better electronic viewfinder with superior contrast ratio and far more accurate defocusing effects similar to that seen from a standard DSLR viewfinder.

Sony has improved image quality with the addition of the Bionz processor. Areas such as flat surfaces, edges and textures will all see enhanced quality over the A37 and A57. In addition, several auto shooting options are now available including Auto Object framing and Lock-on AF. Auto object framing allows the camera to expertly crop the images in-camera to offer users the most pleasing results; allowing you to take your images to the next level. Lock-on AF uses and advanced form of object recognition to continuously follow the subject. Even if the subject leaves the frame, the camera will recognize it as soon as it reenters the frame.

The A58 has ISO sensitivities from 100-16,000 for shooting in all environments. In addition, the A58 has a plethora of creative features. The camera uses 15 image effects to boost your creativity in-camera. Users coming from a point-and-shoot camera should find the A58 easy to navigate and quick to understand. Yet Sony has not forgotten those users that still require more control over their camera's functionality. There are plenty of physical features to keep manual users happy, too.

The Sony A58 is an A-mount camera. The A-mount system offers a total of 35 interchangeable lenses - including several Carl Zeiss and G-series lenses.

The Sony A58 will be available as a kit with the new 18-55mm zoom lens this April for about $600.
