Sony Announces Pancake and Power Zoom Lenses
by Laura Hicks -  1/23/2013

20mm F2.8 lens

With the ability to mount to any Sony Alpha E-Mount camera, the 20mm pancake prime lens offers users a lens for a broad range of environments including street photography, indoor images and landscapes.

The lens has a thin design. It also has a 20mm wide angle of view (30mm on 35mm equivalent) and f/2.8 aperture. It can be used for both still images and full HD videos.

The 20mm F2.8 lens will be available this April for about $350.

18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS Powered Telephoto Zoom Lens

Sony is now offering the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 motorized telephoto zoom lens as a stand-alone lens instead of simply being part of a camcorder kit. The 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is designed for serious videographers. The lens features an 11x magnification range and quiet power zoom mechanics, focusing and aperture operation. This allows for smooth transitions when adjusting zoom level or manual settings during shooting. The lens also offers a zoom lever that works with a switch on the lens barrel, allowing zoom speed to be selected in three different steps -- from slow to crash-zoom effects. Zoom can also be controlled from the NEX-VG900, NEX-VG30 and NEX-FS700 after running most recent firmware update. The lens also has built-in Optical SteadyShot and Active Mode features.

Even though the 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 is optimized for video, it is also able to shoot still photography with Sony's Alpha E-Mount interchangeable lens cameras, like the Sony A99.

The new 18-200mm F3.5-6.3 OSS lens will be available this March for about $1200.
