Panasonic Announces Lumix G X 35-100mm F2.8 Zoom Lens for Micro 4/3s
by Joel Shore -  9/17/2012

Panasonic is expanding its Lumix G Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) lineup with the H-HS35100, a compact X-series 35-100mm F2.8 zoom. Designed for compatibility with the Micro Four Thirds System, the metal body is weather sealed: dustproof and splashproof, according to the company. With a constant minimum aperture of F2.8 available throughout the entire zoom range, Panasonic is suggesting that the shallow depth of field makes the lens a good choice for portrait photography.

The lens incorporates Panasonic's Power O.I.S. optical image stabilizer, making it easier to shoot in low-light situations. It is treated with Panasonic's Nano Surface Coating technology, minimizing reflection across the visual light range by depositing an extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structures on the surface of the lens. The intent is to significantly reduce ghosting and lens flare.

Capable of focusing to 2.8 feet, the lens measures just 3.9 inches in length and accepts 58mm filters. Optically, it is composed of 18 elements arranged in 13 groups and features a 7-bladed diaphragm. Pricing and availability have not yet been revealed.
