Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP7 and FP5 big on style, offer touch screens
by Allison Johnson -  1/4/2011

The glitziest new Lumix cameras that Panasonic pulls out of its hat for this year's CES are the FP7 and FP5, two models with big touch screens and slim profiles. Looking for substance over style? The sleek FP7 and FP5 pack 720p HD video recording and optically stabilized 4x lenses.

The FP7 and FP5 get a boost in LCD size over their predecessors. The FP7 will boast a large 3.5-inch display and the FP5, a 3.0-inch monitor. Both models will record 720p HD video and will offer Panasonic's iA intelligent Auto-shooting mode. Like previous Lumix cameras with touch screens, they will allow users to select a focus point and fire the shutter by touching the LCD. These latest models also incorporate image editing touch features. Now you'll be able to whiten teeth and smooth out skin tones in-camera after the image has been recorded.

The Lumix FP7 offers a 16.1 megapixel sensor and a reflective mirrored finish. Its 3.5-inch LCD features a wide 16:9 aspect ratio and 230k-dots of resolution. Like the FP5, it will use the Venus Engine VI image processor with new AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions. AF Tracking will keep the camera focused on a moving subject, and Intelligent Exposure aims to correct blown out highlights and blocked shadows.

The FP5 will offer a somewhat smaller 3.0-inch LCD and a 14.1 megapixel sensor. The camera body features a matte finish rather than a mirrored one, and like the FP7, has a folded-optic 4x optical zoom lens starting at a 35mm wide angle.
