Super-tough Fujifilm FinePix XP10 announced
by Jamison Cush -  2/1/2010

Fujifilm is encouraging users to drop, soak, freeze, and bury their latest offering: the rugged FinePix XP10, a dust-, freeze-, water-, and shock-proof compact camera announced today.

The "Four-Proof" XP10
The FinePix XP10 features a 12 megapixel CCD sensor and a back-panel 2.7 inch LCD display. Its 5x optical zoom includes a reinforced protective lens barrier for additional protection from the elements. The unit is housed in a tough, metal uni-body chassis, which comes in silver, black, or green. A grip finish helps outdoorsy types grasp the camera in extreme conditions.

The XP10 also shoots 720p video with sound. Other specs include digital image stabilization, tracking autofocus, scene recognition, face detection, red-eye removal, and easy Facebook/YouTube upload functionality. The XP10 measures 21.7 mm thick at its thinnest point and comes with an internal ion battery good for up to 165 shots in between charges.

Fujifilm is branding the XP10 as "Four-Proof," meaning it can survive 3-foot drops, 14-degree temperatures, is waterproof in up to 10-feet of water, and is dustproof.

Pricing and availability
The XP10 will be available in late February at a suggested retail price of $199.95.
