by Allison Johnson -  1/5/2010

Panasonic launches three more high-zoom, small footprint point and shoots today. The Lumix FH20 will offer an 8x optical zoom with a 14.1 megapixel sensor, and the Lumix FH3/FH1 each sport a 5x optical zoom. All models are equipped with a 28mm wide angle lens and 720p HD video capability.

On the back panel, each of the FH models pack a 2.7 inch 230k dot LCD, adjustable by 11 steps of brightness. They're also equipped with Panasonic's scene recognition technology, their iA Intelligent Auto shooting mode. Also standard is their Mega OIS optical image stabilization, Venus Engine IV processor, and 720p HD video capture at 30 fps.

The Lumix FH20 caps the FH line spec-wise, weighing in with a 14.1 megapixel CCD sensor. The 8x optical zoom covers an equivalent range of 28-224mm with a maximum aperture range of f/3.3-5.9. HD video recording is accompanied by standard WVGA and VGA quality options. Color options will include silver, black, red, and violet.

The FH3 and FH1 step down in zoom power to a 5x optical zoom (28-140mm equivalent). Each new FH model will employ a dedicated iA button so that the beginning user will have no trouble accessing the hands-off shooting mode. Switched into iA, the camera will automatically handle ISO sensitivity settings, face detection, scene mode identification and selection, and image stabilization. The Lumix FH3 features a higher resolution 14.1 megapixel sensor; the FH1 will have a 12.1 megapixel sensor. Both models will be available in either silver or black.
