Samsung’s latest slim point-and-shoots have some interesting tricks up their sleeves. The new 12.2 megapixel TL220 and TL225 feature two LCDs each – a touch screen on the back and a smaller 1.5 inch LCD on the front. They’ve been introduced today as the Samsung DualView Cameras.Samsung TL225

The big story here is the small LCD on the front of the TL220 and TL225. Samsung has aimed this feature at the social networking savvy set, making it possible to line up a self-portrait by using the front LCD. It's also capable of displaying graphics in different scene modes.

The TL225’s rear LCD boasts a 1,152K resolution and Samsung’s Smart Gesture User Interface with “built-in Gravity sensor.” Tapping the front LCD once when the camera is powered on will access a self-portrait mode, and the rear touch screen will offer access to all of the camera’s shooting modes and controls. Additionally, the rear LCD offers haptic feedback, vibrating slightly and beeping when a selection has been made.

Samsung also claims that the Gravity sensor will allow users to shift between modes by tilting the camera in different directions. We’ll be interested to see how this technology works in the real world. Rounding out the spec sheet are a 27mm wide angle lens with 4.6x optical zoom, HD video recording in 720p at 30 fps in .H264 format, and dual image stabilization. The TL225 will also offer HDMI output with a separate adapter.

From the looks of it, Samsung has done away with all dedicated buttons on the rear panel except for image playback. The front LCD is an innovative concept, and we’ll be interested to see how intuitive the new interface is.

Pricing and availability
The Samsung TL225 and Samsung TL220 are slated for release in September 2009. The TL225 will debut at $349.99 and the TL220 at $299.99.
