by Howard Creech -  4/24/2007

Canon's product development folks are justly famous for creating ultra compact digital cameras that make taking photos a snap, but they've outdone themselves this time -  the new Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital ELPH may be the "Brownie" box camera for the new millennium.

The SD1000 features 7.1 megapixel resolution, a retractable 3X (35mm-105mm equivalent) optical zoom, Face Detection AiAF, a bright 2.5 inch (230,000 pixels) LCD screen, the new DIGIC III processor (for faster start up, quicker AF, essentially real time shutter fire, and better power management), Canon's exclusive iSAPS technology, user selectable ISO sensitivity settings from ISO 80 to ISO 1600, 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio (for HDTV display), automatic red-eye correction, and improved image quality - all stuffed into a sturdy and stylish metal alloy body that's small enough to be dropped in a shirt pocket.
