Digital Camera News: Pentax Optio W10 and Surfing, Casio Cameras for Charity
by Ben Stafford -  3/27/2006

Pentax Optio W10 at the Kelly Slater Invitational

The waterproof Pentax Optio W10 was chosen as the offical camera of the Kelly Slater Celebrity Surf Invitational.  Held in February 2006, the surf competition was held in Kona, Hawaii.  With the camera that screams "take me with you", it's an ideal choice for carrying with you for active watersports.

Pentax has launched a web site (www.kellyslaterinvitiational.com) with in-depth coverage from the competition and charity event.  The event and web site, in addition to showing off the Pentax cameras and great surf, raise awareness for the volunteer, ocean conservation organization Reef Check (www.reefcheck.org).

Visit the Kelly Slater Invitiational website for some great pictures and enter to win some QuikSilver gear and a Pentax Optio W10.

Casio Cameras in Charity Auctions

To help raise money to the first three public schools reopened in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, Casio has donated several limited edition Exilim cameras to be auctioned off on eBay through the eBay Giving Works program.

None of the models to be auctioned off have been available via retail yet.  There will be 10 red Casio Exilim Z60 and brown Exilim Z600 cameras, and then five custom-colored, blue Casio Exilim Z850 cameras auctioned off.

All proceeds from the camera auctions will benefit three New Orleans schools via the GlobalGiving.com Internet-based philanthropy service.  The service matches up donors and individuals directly to social, economic development, and environmental projects.

For more information, to bid, or donate, see http://www.globalgiving.com/cb/cidi/pr/1300/proj1261a.html and the ebay auctions at www.ebay.com/casio.  The auctions will be running from April 4 to April 14.
