Ricoh Caplio RR630 and Caplio R4 Digital Cameras Announced

Unfortunately, Ricoh's cameras rarely make it to the mass market in the US, but they make some high-quality cameras for a very loyal audience.  Ahead of PMA, they have announced two models, the Caplio RR630 and the Caplio R4.

The Caplio RR630 looks like it's meant to be an entry level camera.  It takes shots at 6.1 megapixels, has a 3x optical zoom and a 2 inch LCD.  The camera is powered by 2 AA-sized batteries and and SD slot is available to extend the 16MB of internal memory.  A movie mode and four scene modes (Portrait, Landscape, Sports and Night) are available.

The spec that pops out on the Caplio R4 announcment is its whopping 7.1x optical zoom lens.  They managed to fit this lens into a very compact body.  The lens also has a wide-angle of 28mm (35mm equiv.) and CCD-shift vibration correction.  The camera can take 6 megapixel images and it has a 2.5 inch LCD.  A rechargeable battery is claimed to be good for 330 shots (CIPA standard).  The macro mode lets you get as close as 1cm.
