The color management experts at X-Rite put a press release on the wire yesterday with some additional details about integrated color management system featured in Lenovo’s forthcoming ThinkPad W700 mobile graphics workstation.

Lenovo ThinkPad W700

Announced earlier this week, the 17-inch W700 features a built-in variant of X-Rite’s color management tool that can quickly and easily calibrate and profile the display for true color reproduction without the need peripherals or third-party software.

Details on exactly how the system works are still a bit thin, but according to yesterday’s announcement, the W700’s X-Rite colorHuey solution will offer the following key benefits to high-performance graphics users:

  • A pre-installed calibration application for immediate display calibration;
  • Custom calibration for ThinkPad W700 mobile workstation for assured color accuracy and optimized color measurement performance;
  • Super easy operation, with an application that starts at the close of the notebook;
  • Preloaded software that allows users to easily access the additional color functionality of an add-on PANTONE hueyPRO via their external display.

The X-Rite/Lenovo collaboration is the first such partnership to offer a complete, highly accurate color management solution as an embedded system in a notebook computer, and we’ll be interested to see if X-Rite and Lenovo’s competitors in the color management and graphics notebook markets, respectively, follow suit with similar integrated technologies.

More info on X-Rite’s other color management tools, including their more common stand-alone calibrators, is available from their webiste – www.xrite.com.
