Sony has introduced two new models to their premium T series of point-and-shoots.

The Cyber-shot DSC-T90 and DSC-T900 offer style and technology updates to the T70 and T700. Look for more megapixels, HD movie mode, and some new technology in the latest models from Sony. And, of course, the chic, ultra-slim design that the T series is known for.

More megapixels, more touch screen action
The Cyber-shot T900 succeeds the T700, noted for an extremely slim design, large touch screen, and massive on-board memory that make it something of a portable photo album.

Sony hasn’t strayed from this concept, and has aimed to improve on some of the shortcomings of the T700. The T900 will feature a 12.1 megapixel sensor, a boost from the T700’s 10.1 megapixels.

A 4x (35-140mm) Carl Zeiss lens and 3.5 inch touch screen remain consistent with the T700’s design.

With the T90’s smaller price tag comes a slightly smaller touch screen at 3.0 inches. It will also sport a 4x Carl Zeiss lens. Both models will feature optical image stabilization with Sony’s SteadyShot technology.

Sony has made some changes in the user interface on it’s latest round of Cyber-shots. Those who were confused by the redundancy of the Home and Menu functions will be glad to know that they’ve been combined.

Likewise, Sony has carried over the Smile Shutter function, a mode that automatically releases the shutter when it detects a smile on the subject’s face. However, this time around Sony has given the smile shutter function it’s own button so that it can be used at the same time as other modes.

Technology updates
On the tech side, the new Cyber-shots will feature Face Priority mode. Face detection will automatically target faces within a frame, and Face Priority will allow the user to select one face to track within the frame and prioritize for optimal focus and exposure.

The T90 and T900 have also been updated with 720p HD movie capture. Both models are equipped with HD-output capability and now feature HD playback in slideshow mode as well.

Pricing and availability
The T90 will retail for $299, while the T900 should sell for $379. Both cameras will be available in April.
