The new Sony α5000, the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera to feature Wi-Fi, offers a lot of punch in such a little body. The camera weighs less than 8oz and has a 20.1 MP APS-C sized sensor that is paired with the BIONZ X processor. This processor is the same one that is found in the Sony α7 and α7R. The camera has an ISO range up to an impressive 16000. The a5000 offers users a new finger grip and tiltable LCD screen. The screen can even flip up to 180 degrees.
The camera also boasts Wi-Fi capabilities via a one-touch connection with Sony’s Xperia devices or NFC-compatible Android devices. iOS users can wirelessly transfer images and videos through Sony’s PlayMemories Mobile app.
In addition to the previously listed features, the camera has a “Photo Creativity” mode. This teaches new photographers about the camera’s creative settings. This mode replaces photo terms with understood phrases like “Background Defocus” and “Brightness”. It also offers easy access to special picture effects like Pop Color, Selective Color, Toy Camera and Miniature Mode.
The Sony α5000 compact interchangeable lens camera will be available in March 2014 in silver, black and white for about $600 in a kit with the 16-50mm zoom lens. In addition to the camera release, the new black-finish E 55-210mm zoom lens will be available in March for about $350.
