Sony introduces the Cyber-shot DSC-TX55 today, a slim 16.2 megapixel point-and-shoot with a large 3.3-inch OLED touch display. It features a 5x optical zoom lens, EXMOR R CMOS sensor and new Picture Effect modes for in-camera photo effects.
It’s a modest update on Sony’s T-series Cyber-shot brand with the inclusion of a new processing technology curiously named “By Pixel Super Resolution.” Using this feature, the camera’s 5x zoom is digitally extended to an effective 10x using in-camera processing to clean up unwanted artifacts common to most digital zooms.
The Cyber-shot TX55 is capable of recording 1080 HD video and includes a “Dual Rec” function that will capture a 12 megapixel still image during movie recording. True to Cyber-shot form, the TX55 will also include Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode, Steadyshot Image Stabilization and an ultra-slim profile measuring just 12.2mm wide.
Pricing and availability
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX55 is expected to arrive in stores this September with a price tag of $350.
