We got our hands on the new ultra-compact from Samsung, the Digimax i5. We’ll be bringing you the full review in a couple weeks, but wanted to get some quick first thoughts up to let you know that it’s coming. If you have any questions, please post them here and we’ll work to get you some answers as we do the review.
The Samsung Digimax i5 is a 5 megapixel camera, with a 3x internal optical zoom (no protruding lenses here!). It has a 2.5″ inch LCD (no viewfinder) and 50 MB of internal memory inside a stainless steel body that comes in silver, black, red and gray.
The camera definitely has a nice look to it and I’m impressed with the protective case that Samsung has tossed in. The sliding lens cover has a fun little “swoosh” sound when you cycle the power on or off. Since the lens doesn’t have to extend from the body, the start up time is pretty quick (it still takes a fraction of a second the LCD to power on).
I haven’t had a chance to take many pictures yet, but I have noticed some significant shutter lag. While it’s faster than some, it’s slower than some of the other cameras in its class. I’ll be sure to delve into this in the full review.
Stay tuned for the full review!
