With the impending release of its new Cube camera, Polaroid is looking to win the award for cutest action camera. Measuring a mere 35mm in height and shaped like a building block, this “bright rainbow of happiness” is clearly targeted at the casual crowd.
Cased in a shock-proof, water-resistant (up to 2 meters) rubber exterior, the Cube is capable of recording video with 1080p resolution. It comes equipped with a 124-degree wide angle lens and can take 6-megapixel stills. Footage storage is dependent on a microSD (up to 32GB), and battery life is estimated at 90 minutes for video recording on a full charge, according to Polaroid.
A built-in magnet enables the camera to be attached to metal surfaces without of a mount, but additional kits are also available. These options include ones for helmets, straps, bikes, standard tripods, and a waterproof casing with a suction mount. There’s also something called a monkey-shaped mount which looks (not surprisingly) like a monkey.
Pre-orders for the Polaroid Cube, which has a sticker price of $100, can be made today from Photojojo. Buyers can also pre-order mount kits ranging from $10 to $40 and a 16GB microSD for $12. The camera and all accessories are scheduled to begin shipping on September 20.
