Pentax Unveils O-GPS1 Chip for DSLRs

Pentax announces today the O-GPS1 unit for Pentax DSLRs, a weather-resistant device that will track the user’s location. This unit will attach to the hot shoe of a compatible Pentax DSLR (with a necessary firmware upgrade) and will record the shooter’s latitude, longitude, altitude and universal time.
In addition to recording location, the O-GPS1 will chart the route of a hike or bike route with interval tracking, it will geotag photos when uploaded to sharing sites and the O-GPS1 offers electronic compass functionality.
Pricing and availability
The Pentax O-GPS1 will be available in July 2011 for use with K-5, K-r and 645D cameras and is not compatible with the K-x or K-7 DSLRs. It will cost $249.95.
