Ricoh, under the Pentax brand, introduced two new lenses today, each of which is an interesting zoom for the company’s K-mount and Q-mount lines. First up is the HD PENTAX DA 20-40mm F2.8-4ED Limited DC WR lens. Talk about a mouthful – but this stunning retro-styled lens packs a number of features into its barrel. Offering photographers a 35mm-equivalent range of 30.5 to 61.5mm, the new DA zoom is the brand’s first Limited zoom lens, as well as the first Limited lens to offer weather sealing.
Despite the fact that this zoom doesn’t offer a constant aperture, the Limited lenses are generally known for their high optical quality – the changing aperture also lets Pentax keep the length within reason, making the new DA appreciably smaller than similar constant aperture zooms for the K-mount.
Also, it looks absolutely brilliant, doesn’t it? I mean, it really looks high quality, with an awesome retro feel.
You’ll be paying for that quality, smaller body, and design, however, as the HD DA 20-40 F2.8-4 is going to hit retail next month for $999.95.
Ricoh also brought out a new lens for their smaller compact interchangeable lens system, the Q series. Weighing just 75 grams, the new PENTAX Wide Angle 08 lens offers compact shooters a 35mm-equivalent range of 17.5-27mm. Ricoh noted in the press release that their “commitment to the Q system remains steadfast,” which may boost the confidence of many photographers who have offered up qualms about the Q’s longevity in a market that increasingly chases after larger-sensor cameras.
Like the DA Limited, the new PENTAX Wide Angle 08 lens for Q-Mount cameras will hit streets next month for an eye-watering $499.95.
