Nikon Announces 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens

Equipped with an F-mount bayonet, the Nikkor 80-400 f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens is a great option for photographers needing a lightweight lens for extreme telephoto lengths, yet willing to accept a maximum aperture range of 4.5-5.6. It has the broadest focal length available in Nikon’s super-telephoto zoom lineup.

In order to keep the price down, the lens does not have an aperture ring and is more lightweight than the other lenses in its class.

But the 80-400mm lens has several things working it its favor. It offers users 4 ED glass elements with 1 Super ED element. It has multiple focusing modes: A/M, M/A and M allowing for a variety of shooting preferences. And it comes equipped with an ultrasonic motor with Nikon’s Silent Wave and VR II technology.

Try throwing the 80-400mm lens to a DX camera such as the Nikon D7000 or D5200 and see what happens. Holy cow! Talk about a telephoto lens.

The Nikkor 80-400 f/4.5-5.6G ED VR lens will be available in April for $2700.
