Eye-Fi update released

Eye-Fi has expanded their hotspot capabilities by now enabling X2 cards to access open-air hotspots that require user login.

Previously, Eye-Fi X2 cards could only access AT&T and HarborLink hotspots at places like Starbucks, McDonald’s and various hotels as part of a promotion between the carriers and Eye-Fi. Now, users with personal subscriptions to hotspot providers like T-Mobile and Vodafone, and even college and university WiFi networks that require a browser-based login, can utilize the network to wirelessly transfer Eye-Fi photos even if the user’s endpoint computer is turned off or miles away.

The move comes through a partnership with Devicescape and is part of a series of improvements Eye-Fi promised with the new X2 line of cards. The update is only available of users paying for the Eye-Fi Hotspot Access service. Details and instructions are available on the Eye-Fi website.
