Enthusiast-level Nikon Coolpix P60 launched

Building on the basic concept introduced by the Coolpix P50, the 8.1 megapixel Nikon Coolpix P60 offers a fully manual control experience in a compact digicam.

A 5x Nikkor zoom with Vibration Reduction optical image stabilization offers range improvements over the P50’s 3.6x unit. In addition to its large, bright 2.7-inch LCD, the P60 features an electronic viewfinder designed to aid in shot composition in difficult lighting environments.

EXPEED processing promises lower noise at higher ISOs, and as with the P50, the new model can shoot up to ISO 2000. A full manual mode allows shooters complete control over the P60’s photographic power.

Per Nikon, the P60 should also be able to milk a set of AAs for at least 190 shots, offering better than average battery life and the convenience of off-the-shelf power. Based on this choice, we’ll keep our fingers crossed about flash recycle times.

Overall, the P60 appears to be a nice package with the same serious P50 look that makes it perfect for an advanced amateur, or as a compact DSLR backup. Look to pick one up for around $230 come March.

Full specs will be added ASAP.
