After a period of relative silence during which Contour died and came back to life under new ownership, the company has finally released a new action cam destined to be the device of choice for surfers, snorklers, and people who can hold their breath a long time.
Carrying the same basic guts as its progenitor, the ROAM3 can record video in 1080p at 30 frames per second. Alternately, video quality can be adjusted to 720p at 60 frames per second. Burst-mode photography is also supported, and all is captured via the device’s 270-degree rotating lens. The camera also comes with laser alignment for aspiring straight shooters, traditional camera mount, and an 8 GB memory card.
What really makes the ROAM3 something for action cam fans is its improved durability. It can even take a dunking — and a severe one, at that — through its new and improved waterproof design that enables it to be submerged at depths up to 30 feet. Even better, underwater performance requires no supplemental casing which ultimately makes it a simpler gadget to manipulate while thrashing about in wet and wild conditions.
Starting at around $200, the ROAM3 is available now from a variety of retailers.
