It's been a while since we had our very first glimpse of the Olympus SP-800UZ at PMA. Now, we've got a full-production unit in hand and a stack of sample images to show you.
The Sony Cyber-shot H55 may not have all the bells and whistles of its brother, the HX5 (GPS, 1080 video), but for a street price that is $100 less, it still offers sweep panorama and an impressive 10x zoom. We're taking a first look at the Sony H55 with a full review in progress.
Panasonic's ultrazoom line gets an update today with Lumix DMC-FZ100 and Lumix DMC-FZ40 24x cameras. Those big lenses cover a range equivalent to 25-600mm. Take a look at what else the new FZ cameras are packing.
At first blush, the Pentax X90 looks like a re-badged X70. You'll start to notice the differences when you see the "26x optical zoom" marking on the lens barrel. We're offering a glimpse at the X90's performance and image quality. Take a look and stay tuned for a full review.
We just reviewed the Coolpix S8000, but with a 7x optical zoom, HD video recording and a slim form factor like the Nikon Coolpix S6000 has, we had to get it in for review too. We're taking a first look at the little brother to the S8000 while the full review is on the way.
We've had the Fujifilm FinePix HS10 out in the field for a few days and we're already impressed with everything this ultrazoom has to offer. Its 30x optical zoom lens covers the same wide-to-telephoto range roughly equivalent to a whole bag of DSLR lenses. We're working on giving it the full review treatment, but for now look at our first thoughts and images.
Packing an ultrazoom like the Nikon Coolpix P100 for a vacation makes plenty of practical sense. You'll be equipped with a 26-678mm telephoto range without sacrificing too much space in your carry-on. But will you regret leaving the DSLR kit at home? Jim Keenan sought an answer to this question as he brought the P100 and a D3 on a trip to China. Take a look at how the ultrazoom fared.
Pentax has announced the X90 ultrazoom, successor to the X70. The X90 offers a very long, wide angle 26x optical zoom lens (26-676mm 35mm equivalent), high speed continuous shooting ability, and full manual exposure controls in a sturdy but lightweight body.
PMA kicked off with the announcement of not one, but two 30x ultrazoom cameras. The Fujifilm Finepix HS10 and the Olympus SP-800UZ both offer massive telephoto ranges in fixed-lens, DSLR-like compact cameras. We took a hands-on look at both cameras.
Nikon adds a new member to the Coolpix "P for Performance" series today - the Nikon Coolpix P100. It's the first Coolpix to feature a back-illuminated CMOS sensor, allowing it to shoot up to 10 fps at full resolution. A 26x optical zoom lens puts it just ahead of its 24x predecessor, the Coolpix P90. Full 1080p HD video recording sweetens the deal.
The SP series of ultrazooms from Olympus gets two new additions today - the SP-800UZ and SP-600UZ. The SP-800UZ will feature a whopping 30x optical zoom lens, and the SP-600UZ will offer "merely" a 15x optical zoom lens. Both feature a DSLR-grade TruePic III image processor and a full slate of beginner-friendly features.
Fujifilm announces the FinePix HS10 today with a 30x optical zoom range. It features a back-illuminated CMOS sensor capable of 10 fps burst shooting. In addition to that monster zoom range, the HS10 will offer full 1080p HD video recording and a full set of manual exposure modes.
