It's time to pull out the "H" word - yes, the holidays are fast approaching, like it or not. And this year, we'd like the gift budget to stretch as far as possible. Thus our Head to Head battle today is an ultrazoom shootout. The Nikon Coolpix P90 and the Olympus SP-590 UZ are matched almost spec for spec, so which camera will give you the most zoom for your buck?
Nikon announces today a digital imaging first - a camera with a built-in projector. The Coolpix S1000pj is a 12.1 megapixel compact that will allow users to display photos and movies at sizes up to 40 inches. All of Nikon's standard features are here too, including a 5x Nikkor lens.
Three new cameras, the Coolpix S640, Coolpix S570 and Coolpix S70, enter Nikon's stylish S series lineup this morning. The S70 boasts a 3.5 inch touch responsive OLED and 720p HD video recording. The Coolpix S570 offers a style update to the S560, and the Coolpix S640 promises improved shutter response and auto focus.
Nikon has just announced the D3000 entry-level DSLR. Along with a 10.2 megapixel DX-format sensor, it will offer a host of beginner-friendly features in a lighter, smaller package. It's also debuting with an equally small price tag, making the D3000 worth a close look for the first-time DSLR user.
The rumors have been flying, and now Nikon confirms the arrival of the D300s. It updates the D300 with 720p HD video recording and faster continuous shooting. Though a couple of other features have been added, much of the technology of the D300s has been carried over from the previous model.
Nikon has issued a service advisory offering free repairs to D5000 units that were sold with a faulty power control. The affected cameras contain a malfunctioning electrical component that has prevented users from being able to turn the cameras on.
The Nikon Coolpix S620, a member of their latest class of slim point-and-shoots, boasts a 12 megapixel sensor, 4x optical zoom and all the modern good-looks we expect from Nikon. We've got a full review of the S620 in the works, but until then, here are some of our first impressions.
The new Nikon D5000 merges technology from the mid-grade D90 with the low price point of an entry-level DSLR. Our review unit rolled into the office last week, and Jerry Jackson has been spending some time getting to know Nikon's newest budget DSLR.
In conjunction with Tuesday's D5000 launch, Nikon announced plans to release a new 10-24mm DX-format lens in May.
Nikon has released a firmware update for its D40 and D40x DSLRs. Firmware version 1.12 for the D40 and version 1.01 for the D40x will improve the function of the cameras with Nikon's EN-EL9a batteries.
With all of the rumors swirling around this one over the last few weeks, it's fair to say that we weren't exactly surprised when Nikon announced its latest consumer DSLR - the Nikon D5000 - right on schedule this evening. With HD video capture and a unique tilt/swivel LCD, the D5000 brings shooting hardware from Nikon's higher-end models to a price and a form factor that should appeal to casual shutterbugs.
Before we subjected our Nikon Coolpix S230 test sample to the rigors of a full review, we took it out for a spin around the block just to see how it handles. Read on for a few sample shots and early remarks on Nikon's latest touch screen model.
