The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has made its selections on what imaging products get their TIPA Awards for 2007. Read on to see the cameras from Nikon, Pentax, Canon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, and others that went home with some acclaim.
A quick summary of the first day of the PMA trade show. Sony officially announced their Cyber-shot DSC-G1 and plans for upcoming digital SLRs. I got to see some great bags from Lowepro and Crumpler. Fujifilm's IR Simple transfer capability is very cool. Other stops were at Panasonic, Nikon, Samsung and HP.
Fujifilm is getting ready for PMA with three new digital cameras. The entry level 8.3 megapixel Fujifilm Finepix A820 and 9 megapixel Fujifilm Finepix A900 will be available in May 2007 for $179 and $199, respectively. The more advanced 7.1 megapixel, 10x optical zoom Fujfilm Finepix S700 in March 2007 for $249.
The new 8 megapixel Fujifilm Finepix F40fd is a successor to the 6 megapixel F31fd. As the "fd" nomenclature signifies, the F40fd also includes Fujifilm's facial detection technology that uses a dedicated processor to detect up to 10 faces in a picture efficiently. The camera also features a 3x optical zoom and 2.5 inch, 230K pixel LCD. The F40fd will come available in March 2007 for $299.
Following the success of the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro UVIR digital SLR, Fujifilm decided to work on a more affordable option. This effort produced the IS-1 digital camera developed for use in the law enforcement, medical/dental and science fields. The IS-1 features a nine megapixel sensor and is configured to capture infrared light. The IS-1 will be available in limited distribution for $899, starting in February 2007.
The Fujifilm Finepix A800 and Finepix A610 provide new affordable options for first time buyers or people looking for an easy to use upgrade camera. The A610 is a 6 megapixel camera and the A800 is an 8 megapixel camera. Both cameras will be available in March with the A610 costing $129 and the A800 running at $179.
The slim and sexy Fujifilm Finepix Z5fd was first announced overseas in November. They announced today that it will be available in the US, starting in March of 2007. The 6.3 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and 2.5 inch LCD will be available in three colors for a retail price of $229.
The pro-level Fujifilm Finepix S5 Pro was announced back in September, in time for Photokina, but Fujifilm has just announced pricing for the camera. The S5 Pro will be available in February 2007 for a retail price of $1999.
