Ricoh has announced the GR Digital, a "professional-grade" compact camera. The GR Digital is specifically designed to provide the best resolution, noise level, color correction and distortion levels. The 8.1 megapixel camera has a fixed focal length GR lens with a 24 mm (35 mm equivalent) focal length and features a new GR Engine processing system. The camera is expected to be available on October 21, 2005.
The Nikon Coolpix S4 is an ultra-zoom digital camera that fits into a shirt pocket. The 6 megapixel camera sports a 10x optical zoom lens and 2.5 inch LCD. In order to handle the 10x optics in a compact camera, the lens and LCD swivel independently of each other. The Coolpix S4 will be available in September at an MSRP of $399.
The sleek looking Nikon Coolpix S3 was announced by Nikon today. The next camera in the slim, compact S series, the S3 offers 6 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom, and 2.5 inch LCD in a matte black metal body. The camera includes Nikon's D-Lighting, Face Priority AF, and In-Camera Red Eye Fix. The S3 will be available in September at an MSRP of $429.

Kodak's new Easyshare V550 is a well-designed, stylish, compact, and surprisingly capable five-megapixel digicam. Ergonomics are amazingly good for such a tiny camera, with logically placed controls and one of the best user interfaces of any ultra-compact digital camera currently available. The V550 not only looks good (in "pro" black with silver trim), it is a genuinely capable digital camera that will appeal to beginning photographers, amateur shooters just making the jump to digital, casual snap-shooters, family shutterbugs, and space/weight conscious travelers.
Panasonic announced two new compact cameras, the DMC-FX8 and the DMC-FX9. The FX8 is a 5 megapixel, the FX9 is a 6 megapixel, and they both include Panasonic's MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and 2.5 inch LCDs.
UPDATED Pentax introduces a new entry level digital SLR, the Pentax *ist DL. Despite its compact, lightweight design, the *ist DL features 6.1 effective megapixels, an extra-large 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, and compatibility with most interchangeable PENTAX lenses. Combining high-quality image reproduction with simple, user-friendly operations, the *ist DL is the ideal digital SLR for a variety of users, including digital photography beginners, families and those who plan to step up from digital compact cameras to digital SLRs.
Kodak has announced the new V Series of cameras. The Kodak EasyShare V550 and Kodak EasyShare V530 are smaller than a deck of playing cards and available in multiple colors, "designed for trendsetters who seek high-style, compact personal electronics that combine phenomenal quality, performance and simplicity."
Pentax has announced the introduction of three new digital cameras to the Optio line of compact point-and-shoot cameras. The Pentax Optio S5z, Optio S45 and Optio S55 will be shipping to dealers in June 2005.
The Sony Cyber-shot P200 sports a 7.2 megapixel sensor, 3x optical zoom, and Carl Zeiss lens in a very compact package. Nikon has opened up the PMA floodgates announcing five new cameras in the Coolpix lineup. The Nikon Coolpix 4600, 5600 and 7600 models are high resolution, easy to use models. The Coolpix 5900 and 7900 offer more features in compact bodies.
As part of the PMA didgital camera deluge, Fuji has announced four new cameras. The FinePix Z1 is an ultra-compact 5.1 megapixel model with 3x optical zoom which competes head-on with Sony's popular T series. The 6.3 megapixel F10 boasts long battery life and fast speed. The A345 and A350 are meant to be easy to use models with several presets 3x optical zoom and 4.1 and 5.2 megapixel lenses respectively.
