Kodak EasyShare V1273 touch screen ultra-compact announced

Kodak had the new EasyShare V1273 touch screen ultra-compact out and about on Sunday evening, and Monday's official press announcement, while not offering much detail, confirmed the specs we saw in action: 12 megapixels, 3x zoom, optical image stabilization, and a 3-inch LCD touch screen.

Samsung i8 camera/media player unveiled

Samsung's new i8 camera/PMP follows in the functional tradition of the company's i85, offering a feature set aimed to combine two pocket-size devices into a single unit. On the camera side, the i8 offers typical specs for a current compact: 8 megapixels, a 3x zoom, and a 2.7-inch LCD screen.

A100 replacement, Sony Alpha DSLR-A200, announced

At a pre-CES press conference today, Sony unveiled a replacement for its entry-level Alpha A100 SLR, the Sony Alpha DSLR-A200. The 10.2 megapixel A200 offers several improvements over its predecessor, including updated menus and controls, a 2.7-inch LCD, cleaner high-ISO shots, a more compact form factor, and a faster AF system.

Casio debuts new line of EXILIM compacts

According to information presented at a press conference this afternoon, a completely new line of Casio EXILIM compact cameras will be available for purchase this spring. New models include the EXILIM Card EX-S10, an ultra-thin card camera, the high-style EXILIM Zoom EX-Z80, and the wide-angle 10.1 megapixel EXILIM Zoom EX-Z100 and EX-Z200.

Fujifilm FinePix Z100fd ultra-compact announced

Fujifilm announced today the launch of the latest addition to its ultra-compact Z series, the Fuji FinePix Z100fd. At slightly more than three-quarters of an inch thick, the 8-megapixel Z100 packs a 5x optical zoom and a mechanically stabilized sensor into a small form-factor device.

Sigma DP1 Update

The Sigma DP1 prototype was shown off at Photokina in October 2006. Many people have been anxiously awaiting this camera as it would be the first compact camera to feature a much larger sensor than other compact cameras. However, in an announcement today, the COO of Sigma apologized for the delay and let everyone know that some of the DP1 specifications that were previously announced will be changing.

Olympus Announces Three Zuiko Digital Lenses

Timed along with the Olympus E-3 announcement, Olympus is also announcing three new Zuiko Digital lenses, all equipped with Supersonic Wave Drive (SWD) motors for fast and quiet AF performance. The new lenses are the Zuiko Digital ED 12-60mm f2.8-4.0 SWD, 50-200mm f2.8-3.5 SWD, and 14-35mm f2.0 SWD. Also being announced is the new ultra-compact Zuiko Digital EC-20 2x teleconverter.

Pentax Optio A40 and Optio V10 Announced

Today, Pentax is rolling out the 12 megapixel Optio A40 and ultra-slim Optio V10. The A40 is their most advanced compact point & shoot and features mechanical image stabilization, face detection and a 2.5 inch LCD. The V10 is an 8 megapixel camera with a 3 inch LCD and 3x optical zoom. The Pentax Optio A40 will be available in October 2007 for $300 and the Pentax Optio V10 will be available in November 2007 for $250.

Nikon Coolpix L14 and Coolpix L15 Announced

Nikon's new Life cameras, the Coolpix L14 and Coolpix L15, don't really change the formula much from previous generations. You'll still find a very compact camera, powered by AA batteries, that is very easy to use. Nikon includes two Energizer e2 Lithium batteries with the L14 that gives it an estimated 1000 shots. Both cameras will be available in September. The Coolpix L14 will cost $150 and the Coolpix L15 will be $180.

Casio Exilim EX-V8 Announced and First Thoughts

The Casio Exilim EX-V8 is the latest compact ultra-zoom from Casio, succeeding the EX-V7. The V8 offers 8.1 megapixel resolution and a 7x optical zoom lens that is mechanically stabilized (the sensor shifts to counteract hand movement). A 2.5 inch Bright LCD does the framing of your shots and reviewing what you captured. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on the new model, so I have a few first thoughts.
