Spring is finally here and the Canon Powershot A520 is still at the top of our most popular cameras. The rankings are determined by the number of times a particular product page is viewed by our users. The rankings below are from the entire month of March. There wasn't too much change from last month - some minor reshuffling and only one new camera on the list. The Panasonic Lumix FZ7 replaced the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9.
The Canon Powershot S3 IS is a pretty straightforward upgrade to last year's S2 IS. It adds a 6 megapixel sensor and a 2 inch flip out LCD. Canon really markets this as a "family" camera - a way to capture kids in action, on the sports field, at a concert - but the camera has also made a name for itself as one of the top ultra-zoom cameras on the market.
The latest Digital ELPHs from Canon, the Powershot SD600, Powershot SD630, and Powershot SD700 IS are bound to continue the success of this compact, stylish line of digital cameras. The SD line is known for their distinctive, compact dimensions, high quality images, and easy operation. Starting back in the traditional film days, the ELPHs continue to build their reputation as the top of the compact camera heap.
The Canon EOS 30D is the much anticipated successor to the 20D. The 30D is Canon's mid-range digital SLR, more expensive than the Digital Rebel XT, but less than the Canon EOS 5D. We got hands on with the camera at PMA and loved the feel and construction of the camera (as well as the spec sheet).
The A must stand for Affordable in Canon's new A series digital cameras. The Powershot A700, Powershot A540, Powershot A530, and Powershot A430 will range in price from $179-$349. The A series cameras from Canon are meant to be a good entry camera into digital photography. The cameras take AA batteries and have a wide variety of controls (depending on the model). If you want easy to use, there's an A-series camera.
We got to see lots of great things at PMA this year, including:
Canon has announced their new crop of digital cameras ahead of the PMA show that starts this coming Sunday. Even though the digital camera market is maturing and slowing, it seems like the manufacturers introduce more models during the course of a year. This time, we see a new digital SLR (Canon EOS 30D), a new prosumer model (Powershot S3 IS), and several other Powershot models to update the line or replace models that were introduced last year. The upside to all these models is that you'll be able to find a high quality camera at just about any price point.
