Canon has added three new cameras to their Powershot "A" line of digital cameras, named for their use of AA batteries. The Canon Powershot A710 IS features image stabilization and more resolution than it's younger sibling, the A700. To replace the A620 and A610 models, that have flip-out, rotating LCDs, Canon has introduced the Canon Powershot A640 and A630. These cameras will be in stores in October. The A710 IS and A640 will retail for $399, while the A630 will retail at $299.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi (or EOS 400D outside North America) digital SLR has been announced today. The XTi replaces the Digital Rebel XT as Canon's entry level digital SLR. The XTi features 10.1 megapixels of resolution, a 2.5 inch, 230K pixel LCD, an imaging sensor cleaning system, and other enhancements. It will be available in September for $899 with the EF-S 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom lens and $799 for the body only.
Image stabilized (IS) mega-zoom digicams are currently one of the hottest products in the high tech marketplace. Kodak's first foray in this highly competitive arena, the Kodak Easyshare Z612, was designed to compete directly with Canon's S3 IS, Sony's H5, and Panasonic's FZ7.
