Pentax's K10D flagship dSLR is up against some pretty stiff competition, including Canon’s EOS 30D and Nikon’s D80, but (for many users) the K10D may actually be the best deal in the mid-level dSLR class. Here is the preview of our full review that you'll see in a few days.
Friday started off with a Panasonic press event, riding Hummer H1s through the desert to test their MEGA O.I.S image stabilization and Intelligent ISO Control, they also stopped to give our bums a rest and take pictures of the Red Rock Canyon area. Today, I met with Zoran - the folks behind the Coach series of imaging processors, Sandisk, Kodak, GE, Canon, and Olympus.
Canon decided to break the mold a little bit with the introduction of the Powershot TX1. This very compact 7.1 megapixel camera features a 10x optical zoom, image stabilized lens, 720p HD video recording, 1.8 inch Vari-Angle LCD - all in a camera the size of a deck of cards. The TX1 will be available starting in March 2007 for $499.
In addition to all the new Powershots, Canon is announcing the EOS-1D Mark III professional digital SLR. The Mark III gets a new 10.1 megapixel APS-H sized CMOS sensor, dual DIGIC III processors, and a Live View, 3 inch LCD. The Mark III will be available in the Spring for about the same price as its predecessor, the Mark II N. By the way, sorry to disappoint all those waiting on the 40D - those rumors may have to be delayed.
The two new digital cameras in Canon's "A" line are the Powershot A570 IS and Powershot A560 with both cameras bringing the DIGIC III processor to the A series. The 7.1 megapixel, 4x optical zoom A570 IS seems to be a way to get Canon's image stabilization available at a lower price point. The 7.1 megapixel, 4x optical zoom Powershot A560 camera helps fill out the line.
The two new additions to Canon's compact and stylish SD line are the Powershot SD750 and Powershot SD1000. They're both 7.1 megapixel cameras with 3x optical zooms and they also have the new DIGIC III processor. The SD750 has a 3 inch screen and the SD1000 gets an optical viewfinder and 2.5 inch LCD.
Every once in a while, we like to show you what camera users are saying about their cameras. Read on for what users are saying about the Canon Powershot S3 IS.
Canon has announced two new cameras for it's consumer-friendly A line of digital cameras. The Canon Powershot A550 and Powershot A460 are follow ups to the A530 and A430, respectively. Both models will be available in February. The A550 will retail for $199 and the A460 will retail for $149.
The new Canon PowerShot A710IS is one of the most impressive general use digital cameras introduced this season and easily the most remarkable "A" series digicam introduced to date. Here are our first thoughts while we wrap up our full review of this camera.
