I covered the "P" (programmed auto), "M" (full manual), and "S" (shutter priority) modes in more depth, but left the description of my favorite mode for this installment.
Fujifilm has announced a modified version of their Finepix S3 Pro. This new limited edition camera, the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro UVIR, is modified to be sensitive to ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) light. This camera is the first "factory made" digital SLR to be specifically designed for UV and IR photography.
After all the teasers and "leaks", it seems like everyone knows all the details about the new Nikon D80, but now that it's officially announced, you can get the full, confirmed specs for Nikon's new mid-range digital SLR. The 10.2 megapixel Nikon D80 is meant to replace the D70s in that price bracket above the D50.
Today, Casio has announced three new 7.2 megapixel Exilim digital cameras. The Casio Exilim EX-Z70 is a follow up to their Z60 with a nice 2.5 inch LCD. The Casio Exilim EX-Z700 features a 2.7 inch LCD and some unique in-camera features. Finally, the Casio Exilim EX-S770 features a wide aspect ratio, 2.8 inch LCD. All three cameras are less than an inch thick and come in multiple colors.
Today, Kodak has announced four new digital cameras and a new portable printer. The Kodak Easyshare V705 is another dual lens camera that takes wide angle shots (upgrading the V570). The Kodak Easyshare C875, C743, and C443 will be added to Kodak's simple to use, entry level C series. The new Kodak Easyshare G600 Printer Dock will provide some portability to Kodak's Easyshare printing solutions.
Pentax has announced the Optio W20, the latest camera in its line of Optio waterproof digital cameras. While it looks the same as its predecessor, the W10, it upgrades some hardware and adds some features. The W20 shoots at 7 megapixels, has a 2.5 inch LCD, a 3x optical zoom, and will support SDHC cards. Look for the Pentax Optio W20 in September for under $300.
The 7.2 megapixel Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 provides a little more affordability to its more expensive cousin, the T30. Available in 4 colors with a 2.5 inch LCD, 3x optical zoom, and Sony's Super SteadyShot image stabilization system.

To a Point and Shoot (P&S) camera user, the mode options can seem superfluous at best, and terrifying at worst. After all, isn't the camera called "Point and Shoot" for a reason?
