If you got a nice big gift card for the holidays and you're wondering what digital camera to get, here's the list of which cameras visitors to DigitalCameraReview.com are looking at most.

Fortunately, I received a Nikon D40 loaner unit right before I headed out to Christmas vacation in snowy Colorado. The recently announced 6 megapixel D40 is a light, compact digital SLR that is built for the beginning digital SLR user. A simplified user interface and simplified controls serve to not intimidate someone who might be intimidate by all the buttons. Here are my first thoughts on the camera so far.
Pentax and Hoya have announced a merger where, effective on October 1, 2007, they will be known as the Hoya Pentax HD Corporation. By joining forces, they seek to use their strengths to establish better value for the shareholders. Fortunately, it doesn't look like this involving digital cameras will actually change that much.
The Olympus FE-200 is a 6 megapixel camera with a wide angle (28mm equivalent), 5x optical zoom lens and a 2.5 inch LCD. It's quite a bit chunkier than the FE-190 that I reviewed recently, but it also has to accommodate a physically larger lens. Our full review is coming soon, but I wanted to give you a couple first impressions until it's completed.
The Olympus SP-510 UZ has a nice spec sheet - 7.1 megapixels, 10x optical zoom, 2.5 inch LCD, the ability to shoot at up to ISO 4000, and full set of exposure modes. Can it compete with the rest of the ultra-zoom market? Here are our "first thoughts" on this camera and we'll have the full review for you soon.
The slim and sexy Fujifilm Finepix Z5fd was first announced overseas in November. They announced today that it will be available in the US, starting in March of 2007. The 6.3 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom and 2.5 inch LCD will be available in three colors for a retail price of $229.
