This month, DigitalCameraReview.com is launching a new regular column called "Head to Head." In this monthly feature, we'll pit two (or more) similar cameras with competitive specs against each other in five key areas, based on data, impressions, and opinions from our review of each product. To lead off the series, three prominent representatives of the "pocket zoom" class of cameras - the Canon PowerShot SX100IS, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3, and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H3 - go head to head.
The last few days have been chock full of new digital camera releases from several major players, and things only got more exciting as yesterday turned into this morning. To make your life easy, a quick run-down of the biggest pre-PMA releases to this point - including a brand-new Canon Digital Rebel, flagship ultra-zooms from Fujifilm and Olympus, and a new Sony touch screen model - is all right here.
In a press release today, Canon announced the launch of a new consumer-level DSLR, the EOS 450D or Digital Rebel XSi. The new camera, which features a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, DIGIC III processing, and live view, looks, from all indications, to make some significant improvements over the current Rebel XTi.
Canon announced three replacements in its popular PowerShot A series with the release of the new PowerShot A470, A580, and A590 IS. The budget-minded A470 brings an impressive features-to-price ratio, and the A580 and A590 IS provide key updates to the extremely popular A560 and A570 IS PowerShot models.
In the DigitalCameraReview.com forums last week, one of our members posted about stumbling upon a one-off Canon SD model on Target.com. As it turns out, the PowerShot SD1100 IS Digital ELPH that leaked out on the retailer's site was actually one of a batch of pre-PMA releases from Canon announced late this evening.
Nikon and Canon have dominated the professional DSLR market since the beginning of the digital revolution, effectively condemning Olympus, Pentax, Panasonic, Leica, and Sony DSLRs to second tier status. That's too bad because there are some really exciting and very pro-capable digital SLRs on that second tier, including the new 10.1 megapixel, 4/3 sensor format Olympus E-3.
Online retail giant Amazon.com released its year-end "Best of 2007" list today, and both Canon's Powershot A570 IS and Adobe's Photoshop Elements 6 made the cut.
to the jobs of IT pros.
