As part of the PMA didgital camera deluge, Fuji has announced four new cameras. The FinePix Z1 is an ultra-compact 5.1 megapixel model with 3x optical zoom which competes head-on with Sony's popular T series. The 6.3 megapixel F10 boasts long battery life and fast speed. The A345 and A350 are meant to be easy to use models with several presets 3x optical zoom and 4.1 and 5.2 megapixel lenses respectively.
The new Lumix DMC-LZ1 and DMC-LZ2 feauture four and five megapixel DC VARIO lenses with 6x optical zoom. The DMC-LS1 has a 4 megapixel lens with 3x optical zoom. All three models offer respectable built-in RAM, SD card slots and operate on AA batteries. The LZ models will ship in March, with the LS shipping in April. The best part? They're very cost effective, ranging from $230-$300.
According to research frim IDC, Eastman Kodak sold 4.9 million digital cameras in 2004, compared to 4.3 million by Sony. Canon came in third with 3.5 million, followed by Olympus and HP with 2.3 and 1.8 million respecively.
The design of the Q1 is definitely unique, and the built in infrared port makes printing to their IR printer a snap. The Q1 is being launched soon in Japan but probably won't make it to the US.
The upcoming PMA show will play host to several new digital camera releases. Panasonic isn't disclosing many details about their new products, but they're doing their best to build up the excitement.
Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-W5, a 5.1 megapixel update for the DSC-W1. The W5 also features a large 2.5" LCD screen, 32MB of integrated memory and 3x opitcal zoom. The DSC-W5 will retail for $350.
Casio has announced the Exilim Pro EX-P505, a five megapixel camera with 5x opitcal zoom and a 2 inch flip-out LCD.
Canon has announced the new PowerShot A520, which is an update of the popular A85 and a 4 megapixel version of the recently announced PowerShot A510 (3 MP). The PowerShot A520 features a 1.8" LCD, SD memory card slot and runs on two AA batteries. The A520 should be available in March at an MSRP of $299.
