Kodak will have two new Easyshare models available in May. The Z7590 will be 5 megapixels and will feature a 10x optical zoom at $450. The Z730 is also 5 megapixels but features a less robust optical zoom at 4x. It will sell for an MSRP of $350.
Sony waited for a pre-PMA press event to show off their new camera lineup. The H1 ($500) is a prosumer model with 5.1 megapixels and 12x optical zoom. The W5 ($350) and W7 ($450) are 5.1 and 7.2 megapixels with 2.5" LCD and metal bodies. The S40 ($200), S60 ($250)and S90 ($300) are value oriented models with a 3x optical zoom and 550 picture battery life.
HP has announced several new cameras in preparation for the PMA show tomorrow. The R717 ($300)is a 6.2 megapixel unit with 1.8 inch LCD and 3x optical zoom and takes the top spot in their consumer lineup. The M417 ($200) is 5.2 megapixels with 1.8 inch LCD and 3x zoom. Lastly the M22 ($169) and M23 ($150) are 4 megapixel models with 1.5 inch LCDs and no optical zoom. They'll be on sale at the end of April.
The Canon Powershot SD400 is their smallest 5 megapixel camera to date. It features a 2" LCD and a new hold feature to let you delete new pictures without switching modes. The Powershot SD500 is a 7 megapixel unit feautring the new "perpetual curve" design. In contrast to most of the other new releases, they're not cheap, coming in at $520 and $650 respectively.
Olympus has announced four new cameras, all priced affordably and designed to be easy to operate. The D-545 is an entry level model with 4 megapixels and 3x optical zoom. The D-595 is 5 megapixels with a 3x optical zoom and 19 shooting modes. The D-630 is an ultra-slim 5 megapixel unit with a 2 inch LCD. Rounding out the releases is the Verve S offer 5 megapixels in a stylish and durable all weather case.
The new Concord EasyShare series (Es500z, ES510z and ES820z) mark a concerted effort to bring easy point and shoot digital cameras to the family. They feature large LCD displays, in camera photo editing, direct print options and a rugged shell.
Concord has released the 5042, a 5 megapixel camera with a 1.5" LCD display and the ability to record AVI movies for $99. They also released the 5040 at $129, which features 5 megapixels, a 1.8" LCD, and MPEG-4 recording ability at 30 frames per second. Both come in slim form factors.
Concord is releasing two new cameras it wants to position as impulse buys. The 3047 will retail for $79 and the 4042 for $99. Even though they're cheap, Concord did well with features, giving the 3047 3 megapixels, 16MB RAM and a 1.8" LCD. The 4042 is 4 megapixels with a voice recording option for adding voice notes to each picture.
The new Nikon DH2s DSLR incorporates several new enhancements and features geared toward photojournalists and sports/action photographers. The DH2s is going to be available in March for $3499.95.
Nikon has opened up the PMA floodgates announcing five new cameras in the Coolpix lineup. The Nikon Coolpix 4600, 5600 and 7600 models are high resolution, easy to use models. The Coolpix 5900 and 7900 offer more features in compact bodies.
Operation Photo is working with Operation Homefront to get digital cameras donated to military families. The goal is to help families cope with the absense of a mom, dad, son or daughter by letting them share pictures of births, family events and so on.
