The Casio EXILIM EX-Z750 is a sexy seven-megapixel digicam small enough to be dropped in a shirt pocket and tough enough to go just about anywhere. The Z750 is fun, it's also surprisingly well designed, remarkably versatile, and capable of genuinely impressive performance (it reminds me of the classic little Rollei 35S).
So does everyone have an ultra-slim camera announced yet? I thought we were about there, but here comes Casio with the EX-S500 - a slick looking model that is .54 inches thick at its thinnest point. The 5 megapixel, 3x optical EX-S500 comes in orange, gray, or white and features a 2.2 inch LCD. The battery is good for 200 shots and the EXILIM engine includes Anti Shake features to minimize image blur. The camera can also shoot MPEG-4 movies at 640x480 resolution and 30 frames per second (fps). The internal memory (all 8.3MB of it) can expanded with SD/MMC memory cards.
Samsung Camera has recently announced the launch of a new 5 mega-pixel, 3x Optical Zoom digital camera with Internal Zoom technology adopted for the first time in Samsung digital cameras (model name: Digimax i5). With enhanced design and multimedia capabilities, the Digimax i5 will accelerate Samsung's penetration into both the domestic and international slim digital camera market, where demand is surging among the young population.
Samy's Camera website has published an article that explains to the layperson what megapixels are and how they should affect your buying decision. Also, they've done a quick shoot out of several 6 and 7 megapixel cameras on the market. See the links within the press release below.
HP announced the introduction of two new cameras, the Photosmart R818 and the Photosmart R817. Both cameras features a 5.1 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 8x digital zoom and a 2 inch LCD. At this point you may be asking yourself why there are actually two cameras?
UPDATED Pentax introduces a new entry level digital SLR, the Pentax *ist DL. Despite its compact, lightweight design, the *ist DL features 6.1 effective megapixels, an extra-large 2.5-inch color LCD monitor, and compatibility with most interchangeable PENTAX lenses. Combining high-quality image reproduction with simple, user-friendly operations, the *ist DL is the ideal digital SLR for a variety of users, including digital photography beginners, families and those who plan to step up from digital compact cameras to digital SLRs.
