Today Samsung announced pricing and availability for the Galaxy NX camera; the first fully connected mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The Galaxy NX will be available for $1,599.99 (body-only) or $1,699.99 (bundled with an 18-55mm lens) and will be available in U.S. stores in October.

The Samsung Galaxy NX Camera features the same 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor found in the NX line of cameras. The sensor offers a hybrid autofocus system.  It features a huge 4.8-inch fixed LCD touchscreen, SVGA electronic viewfinder and very similar user interface as what we saw in the original Galaxy Camera. The camera is powered by a 1.6 GHz Quad-core processor. It is 3G/4G LTE and Wi-Fi compatible for constant connectivity and sharing of images. It has a maximum shutter speed of 1/6000 of a second and hast 8.6 frames per second continuous shooting speed. The body style is very similar to the NX20 with a nice grip and sturdy construction.

Back in June we were able to get some hands-on time with the Galaxy NX and were really impressed with its functionality. Click the link here to see the full preview of this game changing camera.

The announced price of the Galaxy NX is about $300-$400 more than I expected, but it is the first in its class and that gives Samsung some latitude with the camera's price point. In addition, it has some serious features that other mirrorless cameras simply cannot compete with. However, I worry that Samsung has overpriced the camera for its intended market. No doubt the Samsung Galaxy NX is a great camera, but will consumers be willing to dig that deep into their pockets? Only time will tell. I, for one, cannot wait to get my hands on this camera for a full test drive!
