Already an insanely popular camera app, Camera Plus from Global Delight Technologies has been revamped specifically for iOS 8. Redesigned to capitalize on some of the iPhone 6’s superior camera specs, Camera Plus brings a handful of new features and improved functionality to existing ones.
Airsnap has been perfected — as much as app features can ever truly be deemed perfect — by delivering full-screen live view on the remote device. For those unfamiliar, Airsnap is an already-existing feature that pairs two iOS devices up so that one can be used as a camera, the other as a remote (yay for more selfies!).
Aside from other improved features like Lumy, which lets you manually adjust exposure, a handful of new editing tools have been throw into the mix (Shadow, Highlight, and Fade). One of the more interesting additions is Shift, a video focus tool that allows you to get a slightly more professional quality of focus when recording a scene with shifting areas of interest. Utilizing Shift is simple and can be manually operated with simple slider action to bring certain areas within the frame out of focus, while bringing others in focus.
Brand new to Camera Plus via updated iOS 8 capabilities is Handoff, which can automatically connect with other devices logged into your iCloud account; Shake, which lets you instantly access the main Camera Plus capture screen by (you guessed it) shaking your device; and Non-Destructive Editing, which gives you the freedom to play around with effects and crops without worry that you’re going to inadvertently apply permanent changes.
While Camera Plus may never be the tipping point that makes dedicated pro photographers throw away their thousand-dollar snappers and devote themselves fully to iPhones, it’s certainly a powerful and simple to use app that the average non-pro can dig into.
The app requires iOS 8.0 (as we already stated) and is compatible with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. It’s available now from iTunes for a reasonable download fee of $1.99.
