Freebie photo editing apps are a dime a dozen, but few manage to achieve a good blend of fun and functionality the way Photo Editor by Axiem Systems does. The app brings a healthy number of features to the table that let you perform a wide variety of editing tricks, and can be employed for both professional and goofy purposes alike.
Starting from the app’s simple and uncluttered main interface, a single tap lets you take a snapshot, access preexisting photos, or share them across myriad platforms including social media, cloud storage, email, messaging, and just about any other method that can be installed on your Android smartphone or tablet.
Once in editing mode, the full range of available tools are displayed below your photo. These include one-touch color and brightness enhancements, a small but versatile list of Instagram-like effects, and standard editing tools like photo orientation, crop, brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth, and sharpness. A color splash tool converts images to black and white and lets you draw color highlights with your fingertip.
Aside from these, there are also a handful of fun tools and effects that you can use to explore the app’s goofier aspects. The stickers feature (which requires you to download a free bonus plugin) lets you adorn your photo subjects with illustrated hats, crowns, glasses, ties, cigars, speech bubbles, and more. Stickers are resizable and can be easily rotated to fit, and a limited text tool (there’s only support for one font) can be used to fill in the aforementioned speech bubbles. Also of note is a meme creator that automatically sizes text to fit and uses the traditional “meme font” for maximum credibility.
Other functional tools include a finger drawing tool, redeye removal, a whitener brush for those with less-than-dazzling choppers, and a blemish remover with up to six pointer sizes that give you the ability to spot-blur over minor imperfections.
Photo Editor by Axiem Systems runs on Android 2.3 and later, and is available now for free at Google Play.
