Deal or no deal? There’s no shortage of Black Friday savings to be had this week. But where are you going to get the best bang for your digital buck this week? We’ve picked out three of the best deals and three you should walk away from to make your Black Friday a little easier.
Three Deals to Snag on Black Friday
Canon EOS Rebel T2i – $800 – Best Buy (Thursday through Saturday)
The big yellow tag offers the Canon T2i DSLR with an 18-55mm kit lens for $799.99 starting Thursday morning. Street prices for the T2i kit right now start at $849. While that’s not a drastic amount in savings, it’s an extra $50 you can put toward a second lens. If you want to go all in, Best Buy will offer the same configuration plus a 55-250mm lens, an 8GB SDHC SanDisk card and a basic Lowepro bag all for $1000.
Panasonic Lumix ZR3 – $179 – Amazon.com and B&H Photo
The venerable Panasonic ZR series of compact ultrazooms are a good buy at just about any price. Amazon and B&H are offering the 8x optical zoom ZR3 for $179, a full $100 below MSRP. For less than $200, you’ll get an optically stabilized Leica lens and 720p HD video capture. Both retailers are offering free shipping. How’s that for some holiday cheer?
Lowepro Bags – 50% off regular price – Office Max
If a new camera isn’t in the cards for you this Black Friday, you can still cash in on some savings at Office Max with a new bag. Its stock of regularly priced Lowepro bags will be on sale, so snag one for yourself or someone on your list for half the cost.
Three Deals to Skip on Black Friday
Fujifilm FinePix AX230 – $79.99 – Meijer
Meijer’s doorbuster special on the AX230 seems like a pretty sweet deal with a 4GB SD card and a camera case thrown in. But when you compare it dollar for dollar with other deals, you’d probably be wise to pass it up in favor of a $99 Canon PowerShot A3100 from Best Buy. It was a good performer in our review and offers an excellent value.
Nikon Coolpix P100 – $349.99 – Best Buy
As is often the case with Black Friday deals, a little Googling can go a long way. Checking prices on the Nikon Coolpix P100 ultrazoom, we were able to find it for $30 less at B&H than Best Buy’s advertised price of $350. B&H charges no tax and will ship the camera for free. Not a bad way to spend $320. (The product page only lists $50 in savings, add it to your cart to see your $319.95 total)
Olympus SP-600 UZ – $189.99 – Office Max
Olympus’ 26x ultrazoom is on sale now at Office Max for $190 as a featured Black Friday deal. That’s a nice discount from the $249.99 MSRP, but digging a little deeper online revealed the same camera at Abe’s of Maine – new, not refurbished – for $175 without tax or shipping fees. Stay at home and save an extra $15.
