As with previous Canon releases, the 50D is a fairly conservative upgrade, but this camera still sits at or near the top in its category.

Fantastic resolution for capturing fine details
Low-noise sensor (albeit with heavy noise reduction at expanded ISOs)
Excellent selection of in-camera JPEG processing options
Solid durability
Great ability to trigger flash at a variety of shutter speeds
AF system still among the fastest

Cons

Heavy like a lead brick
Overly complicated menus and submenus
Live view interface not very intuitive
Default processing a little flat
AF accuracy not consistent

Description

The Canon EOS 50D is a 15.1 megapixel "prosumer" DSLR and the first camera to employ Canon's DIGIC IV image engine. Specs and features include 6.3 fps high-speed shooting, maximum sensitivity to ISO 12800, a 920K dot 3.0-inch LCD, and a 100,000 cycle shutter. Scene presets and a new Creative Auto mode make the camera more approachable and accessible for less experienced users.
