Great Camera

PROS: I love just about everything about this camera. The picture quality is fantastic, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to make them look good. I personally think the video that can be taken with this camera is better than what you could expect to take with a still camera

CONS: I wish there was a way to make the video output mode something other that mpeg4. MOV format would be perfect.

Great SLR-like performance, HD video is a bonus

PROS: I bought this as a substitute for a expensive SLR and it has proven an excellent choice. Great pictures, excellent lens, plus manual and automatic settings give me all the control I can use. I was also looking for a camera that uses standard batteries and this fit the bill - 2 AAs fit the battery compartment so my rechargeable Energizers work instead of the CRV3 that came in the box.

CONS: The manual is just a "Getting Started Guide" which is about all it is. Luckily, the camera is very intuitive and needs very little explanation.

Excellent camera for money

PROS: Picture on low ISO are great - 200 ISO super pictures. The IS is really doing the JOB. It is good on low low lite, but not perfect. Best thing it have is HD video, you can ZOOM during recording and image is great, colors are really live, and 30 frames per second is really god option. Picture quality is REALLY good. The 12xOptical ZOOM is great with Image Stabilizator combination.

CONS: When I'm shouting on ISO1600 - noise is only thing i can see. THE BATTERY - Kodak don't give you good rechargeable battery. I must to pay about 50 EURO + for Charger and battery - for what I'm not happy. Wide Screen pictures are limited just for 6MP, you can't shoot 8.1 MP on 16:9.

Great camera for the price

PROS: This is an awesome camera for the price. I've taken probably close to 1,000 pics with it and with the exception of user error, all have been excellent quality. Regarding the video and audio, well, if I want to record something, then I'll use my video camera. The Z812 IS is, for the most part, a still camera, not a video camera or an audio recorder. This camera does exactly what I need it to do and it does is just as well as the more expensive cameras on the market. A digital SLR would be nice, but I don't have the $1,000 plus to plop down on one. In the meantime, the Kodak Z812 IS is more than sufficient. Glad to see that Kodak is starting to make quality products again.

CONS: No linux drivers.

It's a still camera - and a good one - not a camcorder substitute!

PROS: Great images from the Schneider lens; 12x is a healthy zoom ratio for this price point. After a few hundred shots, I can't blame the camera for any of the bad ones!

CONS: A bit small for big hands; ditto for the SD cards - wish it used CF's. Some menu items hard to find, but they're there, and they work. One thing to remember: this is designed to be a still camera, NOT a camcorder or audio recorder. If you complain about the audio, you probably drive screws with a hammer.

Great Photos, but odd operation.

PROS: Great photos out of the box with minimal fuss. Just pop in the (useless) battery that is included and start firing. Also really easy to take video captures. Very point and click camera, for a beginner like me. If your looking for a decent camera that has a little meat to it as far as size and features this one will fit the bill. But....

CONS: ....What the heck? Thats what I thought when I started exploring a bit more of this camera. Here are a few things I don't like....(just fyi, some of my problems with this camera may be due to operator error) 1. No battery life indacator. In video mode there is one, little battery icon showing how much juice you have left. I can't figure out if this option cant be turned on during regular photo mode or not. 2. Took me a while of reading, and playing around, to find the EVF/LCD button. This turns off the LCD viewfinder and turns on the electronic viewfinder....good to know how to do that. 3. Camera as for the date and time...way too much. Every time you replace the batteries that is. Annoying! Really...What it comes down to is the horrible users manual. It is basically like the instructions to get with a piece of put together yourself furniture. It doesn't really help you other than to find the buttons, it doesn't tell you what they do. Frustrating. For instance. When i plug the camera into the computer with the provided USB cable, the Led "on" indicator blinks...ok...does that mean that the camera is charging from the computer? I haven't a clue. A re-written concise users manual would add allot to this camera. Great pics, but hard to figure out. Does very well...for a camera!

PROS: Ease of use, creative possibilities, image stabilization, HD capability - at an affordable price! I have read many reviews panning the camera because of the "horrible" microphone - I may be mistaken, but is this not a camera that also allows video capture - not a video camera? The flexibility is awesome, but I use it (and my Z740 that I have had for years) to take still pictures. Were I going to seriously video something, like a concert, I would go for more specific equipment.

CONS: The buttons that adjust functions take a bit of time to get used to.

Great looks, feel, performance except Audio. Has engineering problem with Sound recording and AGC

PROS: Great optical performance.

CONS: Kodak gets an F for releasing Z812 IS Hi Definition Super Zoom high performance model early, without field testing in actual sound recording environments. All Z812 IS sold to date have a serious Audio distortion AGC problem recording outdoor, sports, live music or loud background noise. Kodak needs to recall this model, and make good on all those sold to date. The Z812 IS will fail to make the grade and be a popular camera in its class due to this serious engineering problem with recorded audio.
