CONS: it is excelent
OVERALL SCORE:8/10
PROS: This camera has a 10X optical zoom with excellent image stabilization. usually i can only get stable images down to 1/40 of a second- with this camera i've taken stable images at 1/20 of a second. i can even get occasional good shots at 1/5 of a second. I like the manual controls a lot as i take a lot of night pictures. the ISO sensitivity is way better than my sony DSC-P200 (which was very good). if i set both cameras at ISO 400 this one is much clearer, and more free of noise and noise reduction smears. Color is very accurate. The video mode works very well (30 fps). I really like the burst mode as it averages about 2 frames per second for easily over 20 pictures. the menu is fairly straightforward though not as good as the P200 menu. The shutter release lag time is non existant! (especially when compared to my old Nikon S51 that i got rid of!). the focus time is very fast at wide angle and so so at full zoom (higher contrast things focus really fast). All in all this is my favorite digital camera i've owned and even competes decently with my wife's Nikon D70 all in all. the macro is excellent (about 1 cm focus). the flash works really well up to about 25 feet or so.
CONS: anything above ISO 800 is pretty grainy and nearly useless. the flash leaves a shadow at really close range (ie 2 cm or so). the lens shade is so bulky i dont use it. that's pretty much it.
OVERALL SCORE:9/10
PROS: I checked out and then purchased this camera for my husband who wanted a camera with a higher telephoto lens than what I currently use - a Kodak with 3X optical. The 10X allows you to get really closeup to your subjects. The 8 megapixel is great for those who crop and possibly zoom in on their subjects to maintain picture integrity. Wal-Mart also carries this camera.
CONS: The only con I can conjure is the size. Of course, because of the telephoto lens, it is going to be larger than your super compact cameras.
