PROS: Incredible adjustability considering the price. User-friendly for even the most intense simpleton (as a cutting edge P&S should be). Manual settings take some getting used to, but they are very functional. Great camera for someone who doesn't quite want to afford an entry level DSLR as you can add on quite a few more traditional options (lenses, aux flash, etc). Flash recovery is EXCELLENT if you use good batteries; I see so many people complaining about this, but i think i know why- i use high mah (2500) NiMH batteries that, to use a term from RC racing, have high "punch" as well. The best battery for this would probably be batteries by a company called Intellect, as they make very "punchy" cells that offer great performance under extreme draw conditions, however the 2500mah NiMH Energizers you can get most places should suit most users fine. Large LCD review screen and easy to use viewfinder.
CONS: Offers construction that seems a little light in the pants compared to other cameras in it's class. It seems like it actually is put together well, but it doesn't seem like it upon initial feel. Manual settings are a bit tricky and cumbersome (but useful). Instruction book can be quite a bit hairy at times while navigating.
OVERALL SCORE:8/10
PROS: manual mode, AA batteries. thanks to CHDK live histogram, raw, battery indicator.
CONS: noise at any iso, especially in low light, slow lens, flash recharge time, returned 4 due to debri inside lens, dust or dark spots inside viewfinder, hot pixels in lcd, strap detached. cheap plastic body looks and feels like POS. on my 5th now and it's going for service or on ebay - stripped tripod socket, audio noise in video. all cameras have dust in viewfinder, blur, but at least it seems aligned. my first and last canon. will try other brands next time.
OVERALL SCORE:4/10
PROS: The quality of the images. The ability to shoot video.
CONS: Slow shutter speed especially at night. Poor image quality at night on 'auto' setting.
OVERALL SCORE:9/10
PROS: 2007-10-03. I have only had this camera for 48 hrs but I am already very impressed of it. The good features then; full auto and PASM + a lot of scene modes, 4 times zoom, a grid in screen for showing the "golden section" as we say in Sweden (the screen divided into 9 areas), face detection, optical image stabilizer, manual focus, flash level settings, settings for sharpness, saturation and contrast, personal settings for self timer which is default to 10, 2 and 10 + 2 seconds, personal settings for white balance and a lot more. Around 2 fps in continious mode, and that will last as long as ypu push the buton!!!. Not only a 5 pics burst or so, like on many other cameras. Well done! Also AA batteries which means you can buy some Duracell´s if you run out of power. An optical viewfinder which can save battery is allso a good function. Low light illumination for party shots in the night combined with a fast autofocus is priceless. This camera has almost everything you can wish from a small compact and is very well worth it´s money, 2295 sek, app 247 €. A GOOD BUY!!! /Dragonsailor
CONS: However, the coin has always two sides and there are some minor issues that I found to be not so good. The first one is the flash settings and espescially the slow sync. To be able to use slow sync you must turn the thumbwheel to the "night schene" and then the ISO setting automaticly turns to auto, wichy means higher iso than set in the P-mode. However I foud out that in the "night snapshot mode" the ISO is set to 250 and in the scene mode "nightshot" the ISO is set to 80. A separate flash button would have helped here, to easily get slow sync pictures, like on other camera manufacturers, for example the Sony DSC W50 ... Now you must turn the thumbwheel to the program that allows slow sync function. A separate button for the self timer would also be good to have since the 4 way button has the left / rigt arrows without those functions, just to be able to handle the shutter and apperture settings. There is one button that you can assign to some different functions but unfortunately not the self timer. I have not yet found the "zoom bar" on the screen which normally shows the position of the lens, i:e 35 - 50 - 80 - 140 etc ... not an important feature but a good guidance. Maybe it does´nt exist? The start up time is a little bit slow.
OVERALL SCORE:8/10
PROS: Got manual function which allow me to shoot special scene which seldom have in P&S camera and the price is so affordable. nice image quality.
CONS: higher zooming range and shorter macro shot distance will be a lot better.
OVERALL SCORE:9/10
PROS: manual control, 4x zoom, aa batteries
CONS: slow lens, barrel distortion, does not come with rechargeable batteries and charger, some fringing, noise at any iso setting, background audio noise with video. Slow flash recharge time may be a problem for some. cheap plastic body. i returned 3 of them because of scratched lens, there was dust and debree in viewfinder in every cam i received, plastic piece that holds hand strap detached from the body.
OVERALL SCORE:4/10
PROS: Great image quality, excellent image stabilization, fast f2.6 aperture, great low light shots, scene modes work great, AA batteries were a savior when ripping off hundreds of shots a day on vacation
CONS: nothing major. Would have liked to see a 28mm wide angle lens, but at least you can add one on with the adapter
PROS: Easy to Use, Memory Card Inexpensive, Pictures Good, AA Batteries
CONS: Zoom Not Continuous, Optical Viewfinder Displays No Information and Stops at 6X, No Editing Functions
