The Sweet Spot in DSLRs

Incredible camera

Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 10:26:01 PMPROS: Love the noflash on the landscape option and plus the ISO 200-1600. Continuous shots of 3fps. Manuel zoom so you use your hands rather than just your thumb. Manual focus.
CONS: Though it cannot do like the Canon S20 5fps. Nor is it 8.1mpl or higher.
Great dSLR and latest technology from nikon

My first SLR in 5 years
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 10:10:52 PMPROS: Love this camera. It gives me superior images compated to the 'snapshot' digitals I've been using, and more control over the images I take. This is the camera I've been waiting for. I even like that the number of pictures remaining is shown when the camera is off - although with a 1GB drive, I will likely never fill it up.
CONS: None yet.
Best continuous shooting under $2500

CONS: No available battery grip, minimum ISO of 200, no PC sync terminal without adapter, weak software bundle

Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 10:10:52 PMPROS: since owning the A-1 canon since the '80's,and going through many digitals (including the nikon 4500), i finally have an SLR digital that I can focus (set on manual) and take my own pictures...finally. set the sharpness to medium-high, and the back legs will break off your chair when you see your pictures. get the nikkor 70-300 AF also (around $160), and you're all done (except for some ND filters). the included lens (18-70mm in the outfit box) is exceptional in it's motor driven quiet focusing, and the same nikkor AF 70-300mm (equal to 450mm in 35mm)achieves the same instant focusing). this feel of this SLR reminds me of the 'film days' when i had a darkroom (before elvis died), and the minute you pick it up you'll go for your wallet. i've photoshop interpolated 2 prints already to 16" X 20", and the results are stunning to say the least. i work at a newspaper, and they just bought D-100's for the photo dep't. and now they wish they'd waited for this d-70. don't pass up on the 18-70mm lens in the outfit (it's the "cat's ass"), and an exceptional value from med. wide angle to portrait. i've rambled enough, and 'feel the pain' of those digital 'rebel' owners banging their $899 heads against the wall. (GO GET A D-70 AND YOU'RE DONE)
CONS: nikon capture software (trial version) should have been an included full version. (let's get with it Nikon?)

Great for Nikon Users
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 10:10:52 PMPROS: One of my friends bought one and I got to test drive it. I've got too much money invested into Canon lenses, so I would never buy this. That said, I was impressed with this camera. Also having a Digital Rebel, the choice to go with a black plastic body is good. The features of this camera are somewhat better than the Canon Digital Rebel. So if your looking for a dSLR and aren't locked into any another system, I'd recommend this camera. Picture quality was good. You'll definitely want to get a Speedlight TTL Flash and a high capacity, high speed Compact Flash card as well.
CONS: No battery grip option, so shooting in portrait mode isn't as comfortable as it should be. Hopefully they will come out with one. Even the Digital Rebel has one. I shoot a softball game with this camera, a Digital Rebel and a Canon 10D. The Digital Rebel and 10D performed better than the D70. I wouldn't recommend this camera if your not a Nikon user.
