Great images and wide angle Camera

Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 9:32:55 PMPROS: A wide angle capability on an 8 megapixel camera can certainly appeal to people interested in enlarging portrait pictures. The dial access makes this camera easier to use than the 8700, too.
CONS: The 24-84mm zoom capability on this camera limits the number of situations this camera can be used in. The ISO and aperture settings on this camera are really limited, too, further hindering creative effects and uses of this camera.
nice idea, but. . .
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 9:32:55 PMPROS: At first sight it looks like a winner for the serious amateur. At last a lens that is actually wide enough to qualify, with good megapixels, RAW etc - and a remote control.
CONS: But no manual override on focus or exposure - how many will actually buy this?
Wide Angle is Everything

CONS: Nothing. You need a camera with a longer zoom? - then don't buy this one, there are plenty of others out there. How many people need a zoom lens anyway?
Coolpix evolution
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 9:32:55 PMPROS: I own it: you do have good manual control over focus and exposure. Awesome macro mode and wide angle. Better ergs. Fast zoom and buffer. A wonderful piece of precision machinery.
CONS: Proprietary battery, PictureProject software is useless (you can still download NikonView)Too big to slip in your pocket like other Coolpixes
Take the camera for what it is
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 9:32:55 PMPROS: The camera is made for nature, landscape type photography. For shooters who put a premium on wide angle photography. It has great picture quality. You don't need fast glass. Nikon has made many upgrades in this camera. The focusing and battery life are two. Want a longer lens? Buy the optional converter or a Coolpix 5700 or 8800.
CONS: Needs vibration reduction like the 8800.
Best P&S Digital for Panoramas

Finally a decent wide angle digicam!
Submitted by unknown on 4/27/2005 9:32:55 PMPROS: 24-85 is a an ideal zoom range for street-shooting,landscape, and architectural photography. The 85mm equivalent long end is excellent for portraits (85 mm is the preferred portrait lens for SLR's these days - though its usually an f1.8 or faster). This is actually a very versatile camera but it is better suited to the advanced creative photographer. Its likely to be purchased by someone who already has a more conventional digicam or DSLR. If this sounds like you, give the 8400 a try - you might like it. The autofocus is fast and mostly accurate - check your auto focus points to ensure its locked on to where you want it to be or select the focus point manually. Noise at ISO 50/100 is not visible in large print sizes (16 X 20). ISO 200 is good up to 13 X 17. Noise Ninja is needed for large prints at ISO 400. The built-in red eye removal processing works quite well- though its still better to use an external flash. The zoom range of the SB600 Speedlight matches the camera (24-85), it zooms automatically, and it operates in I-TTL mode.
CONS: No, its not another super zoom camera - thats what the Coolpix 8800 is for.

CONS: 3 sec. to start and 2 sec. between shots, come on Nikon this is a second generation 8-megapixel camera and expensive, it should be faster.
