  Thank you, Canon!

PROS: Lighter than the S50 i last had. Pic quality and features are unmatched. Easy to navigate menu and overall a great looking cam.

CONS: Price, but it's worth the sacrifice.

  My own first take

PROS: Great Pictures, 7.1 megapixels of resolution, plenty of manual controls, small size.

CONS: The S70 has not been out long enough for anyone to be sure of it's performance. The price - there are some really nice cameras out there for the same or just a bit more money.(But most are much bulkier)

  FATAL Flaws

PROS: Great flexibility and functionality. When working correctly, it provides wonderfully vibrant and evenly composed pics. Fast charging, long lasting battery. Solid metal build. Great LCD that's protected with hard lens. Fast, reponsive commands.

CONS: Subtantial barrelling at widest zoom level...too much to ignore. Very Marked Purple fringing (chromatic abberration?) when shooting high contrast pictures (i.e. shaded leaves against blue sky in late afternoon). Seems like the purple fringing curse on most all Canon cameras continues to live on. Night pics, while competent, are not as good as my Olympus C-3000 or Sony DSCW1. Sliding lens cover, like all moving parts will show their wear after a while. Proprietary Lithium Ion battery should be replaced with trusty NiMH batteries like other Canon cameras. Too expensive for its aforementioned fatal flaws.

  Ignore "David"

PROS: This is an excellent camera with outstanding image quality. No it does not suffer from extreme barrel distortion as "David" would have you believe. "ALL" compact digital cameras . . . all . . . have some barrel distortion & purple fringing usually at their extremes. Even digital SLR's have this condition. It is simply a fact of life in optical lenses and the compromises that have to be made. Yes some cameras have more of these issues than others but this camera does NOT suffer from extreme barrel distortion. Perhpas David got a bad one. The reader should surf over to Amazon.com where "David" posted the exact same garbage. The dead give-away is his slam that "ALL" canon's suffer from this. Gee David if you knew that to be true then why did you buy this CANON camera? Duh! Therefore I place his review in the "I hate canon box" and treat that review with the honorable ignorance it richly deserves. Canon makes fine cameras with very good optics as most people will attest.

  Buy the Pentax Optio 750z instead!

PROS: 7MP. Erm, that's it. The Pentax Optio 750z offers MUCH more at a similar price.

CONS: Mediocre picture quality, purpole fringing, barrelling, lack of zoom, awkward to handle, rather 'cheap' feel. Too expensive for what it offers.

  Solid camera!

PROS: Features, quality of pics, excellent night pics..low light etc, solid feel to camera,

CONS: Cost $599 (best buy), battery and CF card in same area.

  Great Camera, Thumbs up Canon

PROS: Excellent Camera, great pictures, clairy was good, it did not purple fringing at wide angle. Definetely recommended

CONS: Screen could be bigger like one of Sony 2.5 in.

  Skip this camera.

PROS: 7 MP resolution.

CONS: Purple fringing is a problem. Barreling is a problem as well. Has a distinctly ?cheap and flimsy? feel to it. I?m glad I just borrowed this camera from my brother and don?t actually own it. As a test/comparison, I took images with the Canon at max res and my Sony W1 5.1 MP cam and printed them out. With 8 X 10" images Sony was the clear winner over the Canon. In 13 X 19" images, it was a tossup, even though the Canon should have clearly won. I'd love to have a pocket sized 7 MP camera available for $500-$700 that captures great images. This one is not it.

  Takes great pictures at a small size

PROS: Takes great pics!! compared this camera w/ 2 8 meg pixel camera's and it definitely held its own (check http://www.steves-digicams.co m/ for samples), and when you zoomed up on the pics, the details matched or beat out several of the more professional cameras. Also this camera still fits in your pocket (though a little bulky for a compact). Definitely doesn't feel flimsy like one commenter stated.
