PROS: The image stabilzation allowed excellent photos from moving train, bus and car in the farthest zoom mode. Unbelievable Called it our wonder camera.It's my 4th digital camera.

CONS: lens cap clipped to neck strap very unreliable---bounced off when I leaned out the train platform. It sometimes does something odd by itself that can only be fixed by resetting. Happened to my camera and another ladies on the bus who had the same Canon SX10.

  Has one flaw

CONS: I wish there was a rubber piece to hold onto because the plastic can get slick, but I am going to put on friction tape. 800 ISO and above is not really usable at full resolution JPEG. The eye piece has another LCD inside so it is hard to focus on small subjects and it is never know if they are in focus. The Auto mode keeps going to a 1/8 shutter speed, but I only use the M mode. Fold out LCD is a good idea but it moves vertically (not supposed to) so sometimes it loses connection and the LCD turns off.

PROS: Huge zoom, hot shoe for external flashgun, tilt LCD, AA batteries equipped, good ergonomic design with useful buttons and controls, plenty of user friendly features and full manual mode, compartment for memory card isn't in the same place as batteries, efficient image stabilization.

CONS: Small LCD, heavy, cheap lens cover and hood, cheap cover for USB connector, hard to open battery hatch, not too good autofocus specially with artificial light, no RAW mode, no battery level indicator.

PROS: In the easiest light conditions, you get very nice shots... A huge zoom but often not usable because of the insufficient image stabilization

CONS: Autofocus is very difficult indoors or in poor light. It often fails. Image stabilization isn't by any means as efficient as I hoped it would be.In manual mode you cannot be under 5.6 anyway. As ISO climbs, images get really noisy. I think the batteries door will collapse pretty soon : very difficult to open ; worse to shut. It seems to be an incredibly cheap manufacturing, not talking of the clumsy wheel and the unconfortable buttons in general

  Best Ultra Zoom ever.

PROS: 28-560mm lens is not only the best there is, but it is the only one in existence,(SLR or otherwise.)This lens is not slow if compared to lenses of 560mm or more. If you know about lenses you will know that any zoom in exsistence that reaches a full 560mm will be about a 5.7. In fact, this SX10 lens is no slower the the Canon G10 lens at it's max zoom. The Digic 4 is great and is why ISO 400 is usable for printing 8x10s in most cases. Compare the "king of clubs" images in these reviews from DCR, to the same images for the Canon G10, from DCR also. You will see that the SX10 does just as well, if not better then the G10 in these jpg images. And keep in mind that the SX10 can produce these comparable images with a huge zoom, which is normaly a problem in most cameras. The hot shoe is nice to have and a must for some users. AA batteries are the only way to go for obvious reasons. The Wheel control is not a plus, but some early SX10's had wheels that didn't work as well as they could have. Mine works OK.

CONS: The SX10 movies are recorded in the Apple propriatory format ("container" as some call it)and with a .mov file extension. Call it what you like. The bottom line is that, it takes and extra application and codecs to make it compatible with the standard "Windows Movie Maker", that most of the world has at there finger tips. The compression used is H.264 and only results in about a 30% reduction in file size. With the size of todays SD cards being so large and cheap, this 30% smaller file size does't mean much. The old .avi format was of better quality. This of no reason not to buy the camera as the SX10 is meant to be a still image camera and the movie feature is just an extra, even if it is the Apple .mov handicap for Windows users.
