Today Nikon introduces the AF-S Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G. This lens is built for the most discriminating of professional photographers. This prime lens offers excellent low-light capture for both full frame (FX) and cropped sensor (DX) cameras. In honor of the original Noct Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 lens, the new 58mm f/1.4G lens offers photographers the ability to capture great detail in dimly lit situations as well as a plethora of other shooting environments.
58mm is a unique focal length and the lens has been optimized for outstanding performance. The lens offers a rounded nine-blade diaphragm, two aspherical lens elements, Nano Crystal Coat technology that prevents ghosting and flare, and a Silent Wave Motor for quiet AF operation. Like other G lenses, two focus modes are available, including M/A (AF with manual override) and M (manual). The lens promises minimal sagittal coma (diamond-shaped flare that can be reduced by stopping down the lens), while light falloff is restricted to retain brightness and reduce vignetting, even when shooting wide open.
To say I would love to own this lens is a big understatement. I cannot wait to test this lens. I really, really hope it matches my expectations--especially for the price.
The AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G lens will be available in late October 2013 for a suggested retail price of $1,699.95.
